OPSEU local 464 represents the unionized Allied Health Professionals of The Ottawa Hospital. Our members work in over seventy professional occupations. It is the largest local in the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and has a growing membership of over 1800 employees.
Our local was formed in 2000 as a result of a representation vote ordered by the Ontario Labour Relations Board held following the amalgamation of the original four area hospitals (Civic, General, Riverside and Salvation Army Grace). This was followed by The Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in the spring of 2002; the staff from Ottawa Regional Cancer Center (ORCC) in the spring of 2004 and Sandy Hill Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team in the fall of 2004.
The local’s primary responsibility is to negotiate a collective agreement on behalf of our members and to oversee all disputes arising from the administration of the collective agreement between members and the hospital. We have an extensive team of Labour Relations Specialists available to us through OPSEU’s Head Office and numerous volunteers from the various professional occupations who work with the members to deal with any issues and disputes. We also represent our members on numerous internal and external committees to ensure the highest level of safety for our membership and that the best quality care is provided to the public.
The Local Executive is comprised of a President, 4 Vice President positions (elected from the four largest sites: Civic, General, Riverside and The Rehabilitation Centre) a Chief Steward, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Health and Safety and Return to Work Officer. The executive also includes stewards from various areas. The Local Executive Committee meets monthly.
It is through the dedication of the executive with the support of the membership that we continue to move forward.
